Madison Heights Disability Pride Event – 2024

Join us at Madison Heights Disability Pride 2024!

Come show your ADA Pride at Madison Heights Disability Pride 2024! Join the Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council (MISILC) together with the Madison Heights Arts Board, the Madison Heights Human Relations & Equity Commission, and Disability Network Eastern Michigan on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 1 pm – 4 pm at the Madison Heights Civic Center Park to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act. There will be live music, art activities, accessible yard games, a food truck, and more! The Creative Mobility Group will have a wheelchair accessible vehicle on display. Representatives will be available to answer questions about vehicle modifications and funding resources for adaptive equipment.

About Disability Network Eastern Michigan

Disability Network Eastern Michigan (DNEM) is dedicated to promoting inclusion and independence for individuals with disabilities. They achieve this by breaking down barriers and providing resources, advocacy, information, support, and education. DNEM serves Huron, Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, and Tuscola counties.

DNEM offers a variety of core services, including:

  • Advocacy: Assisting individuals in navigating systems and accessing services, as well as consulting local businesses on ADA compliance.
  • Independent Living Skills Training: Empowering individuals to gain the skills needed for independent living.
  • Information & Referral: Providing valuable information and referrals to appropriate resources.
  • Peer Support: Connecting individuals with peers for mutual support and guidance.
  • Transition Services: Assisting youth and adults in transitioning to greater independence.

About Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council

The Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council (MISILC) is dedicated to advocating for the inclusion, equity, and accessibility of people with disabilities in all communities. Their mission is to ensure that people with disabilities are valued and their rights are recognized and upheld in all aspects of life.

MISILC collaborates with Michigan’s Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and other partners to develop and implement the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL), which outlines the values, principles, and policies guiding the state’s independent living services. The SPIL aims to create communities where people with disabilities can live independently and participate fully in society​.

MISILC provides resources, support, and education to enhance the independence and self-determination of people with disabilities.
