May is Mobility Awareness Month, a time dedicated to promoting understanding, inclusion, and innovative solutions for people with mobility challenges or disabilities. At The Creative Mobility Group, we believe in fostering a world where everyone has the opportunity to lead an independent and fulfilling life. This year, we are excited to announce that we will be joining Matt Barbour on ABC12’s Good Morning Mid Michigan each week throughout the month of May to share insights and resources on mobility solutions.

A Month to Celebrate Mobility Solutions

Mobility Awareness Month provides a unique opportunity to spotlight the incredible advancements in adaptive technologies and accessible transportation. It’s a time to educate the public about the needs and challenges faced by people with disabilities, and to showcase the tools and resources that make independence possible.

Throughout May, The Creative Mobility Group will join forces with ABC12’s Good Morning Mid Michigan to bring you a series of informative segments designed to inspire and inform. Here’s what you can expect during these weekly segments:

Week 1: What is a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle?

In this segment, we’ll explore the basics of wheelchair accessible vehicles. Learn what makes them unique, how they’re designed, and the key features that ensure safe and comfortable transportation for people with mobility challenges. From lowered floors to ramp systems, discover the engineering behind these specialized vehicles.

Week 2: Mobility Solutions for Your Vehicle

In the second week, we’ll dive into various mobility solutions that can be added to your existing vehicle or are included in specialized vehicles. We’ll discuss lift systems, hand controls, swivel seats, and other adaptations that make driving or riding easier for people with disabilities. Find out what options are available to tailor vehicles to individual needs.

Week 3: Driving with a Disability

Driving with a disability can be a significant challenge, but with the right tools and training, it’s possible to regain your independence on the road. This week, we’ll talk about adaptive driving equipment, licensing requirements, and training programs for drivers with disabilities. You’ll hear from experts and individuals who have successfully transitioned to adaptive driving.

Week 4: Accessibility at Home

In the final segment, we shift our focus from transportation to home accessibility. Learn how to create a barrier-free environment that supports independence. We’ll discuss home modifications such as ramps, widened doorways, accessible bathrooms, and stairlifts. Find out how these changes can make a big difference in the quality of life for people with mobility challenges.
